This past Wednesday I showed you pics of the before of the Master Bedroom that the hubs and I “flipped” I also posted this layout to maximize the space in the room.
I took careful dimensions and everything is accurate in this floor plan. I was able to more than double the closet space with adding two wardrobes and a dresser. Now you have two spaces for closets. (This helps if you have a hubs! Or maybe you just have a lot of stuff)
I wanted to give you a little insight into how I go about a space. I usually figure out a mood board.
- Usually something triggers my interest. In this case I started with what was needed…two wardrobes. Found my favorite one and then finished it.
- I look in every store (online because living in a small town hinders my options) I don’t worry about cost. I find everything I would put in the room. I find the style I want.
- Then I decide what I want to DIY and what I am willing to purchase.
Here is what I came up with for the Master Bedroom in the Flip House. It all started with the wardrobe.
Here is where these items are from
Wardrobe - Of course you would need two. These are Pax Wardrobes from Ikea (39 inches wide, 79 inches tall) so you could even put baskets on top with less used items. The color is Black-Brown. The are $320 a piece. I know…alot, but If there was anything in the room I would splurge on it would be these. Why…Here are some things you can do with them….. (the right section is the size) This is just one option. If you don’t need drawers you could do shelves or a shoe drawer. Maybe you just need hanging storage!
DIY Options for the Wardrobe:
Build One (if you have the tools and skills)
Find two similar armoires’ on Craigslist. Stain them or paint them the same color. I see the same type of armoires on Craigslist for $100 or less.
Dresser: Ikea, Hemnes. I am not a matchy matchy type person with furniture. But when it’s all on one wall. I like it to be cohesive.
DIY Options for Dresser:
Stain one you find at a Re-Store or Craigslist. Maybe you already have one. Stain it the same color as the wardrobe.
Bed: Overstock.com The Brand is Beckly Queen. Love this. $949 for a bed is pricey for me but in the bed shopping world…not bad. This could be a splurge.
Find a queen metal bed frame and DIY your own headboard. That will cost you about $100. I did mine for $around $50.00. Of course you wouldn’t have the cool upholstery all the way around but you would still get the look. (Cover the metal frame with a bed skirt)
Side Tables: Urban Outfitters. Surprise, Surprise Urban Outfitters has great stuff and low-cost shipping! (free over $150!) They have some great couches and chairs. Now, my mood board said small dressers. I was set on gray an these are the only things I found. If you don’t need storage these would give a nice contrast.
Find a nightstand or small dresser in a thrift store, paint it grey and distress it a little.
Bedding: West Elm, Sketch duvet. Not a bad price at all. I would buy it.
find a red and white patterned sheet, buy two. Make your own duvet. It’s like making a big pillow except you leave an opening for the down comforter. (Before you spend the time make sure what the final cost of your made duvet would be. If its only like $10.00 cheaper…splurge. Your time is worth that!
Mirror: Ikea, Songe
These tall mirrors are kind of expensive. Stay tuned…I made one for $15.00 Yup. Its easy…you could do it too. You just have access to Craigslist…Lowes or Home Depot. You can even do it without tools.
Vanity: Target, Delano Desk. I picked a desk instead of a vanity. That way it had storage and you could use it as a desk if you needed to.
Paint a desk or console table you have white.
Chair: Target, Stacking Chair. I loved the Modern design. I think you have to buy two. I have seen some different colors in the actual store. Of course you could always find a cheap chair and paint it!
Here are some accessories I could see with this Room:
I loved these roman shades from a room I saw on decorpad. (Great place for ideas!) They would go great on both windows in this Master Bedroom. The one behind the bed I would also add White Grometed Curtains. The window over the dresser I would just put the shades.
You could DIY them with these shades from Wal-Mart:
You could accent this room with a dark turquoise, or maybe you like a light blue more than turquoise. You could even accent things in a spring green (not quite hunter but not as light as sage) You could bring these colors in pillows, throws, the rug, the mirror over the vanity, lamps, pictures…. Anyway, I hope I have given you some ideas or helped your figure out how to organize your room with storage. Maybe this mood board could actually help the future owners of the house we are selling!
