Meet Asa LeRoy….
He is 15 months old and the most talkative and joyful kid. He loves music, loves to dance, and loves to play. His parents just completely gutted an old, foreclosed home and made it beautiful and new again. (I mentioned before I helped them stain their kitchen cabinets.) They put every ounce of their time and budget into renovating their home and now, a year and a half later are trying to figure out how to decorate it. My friends (Asa's parents) have an urban, functional modern style but they live in the Ozarks…”the lodge decor capital of the world”. There is nothing wrong with lodge decor. The Ozarks is a gorgeous part of the country and lodge decor fits and is really nice, but it is not these home owners style. They both grew up in a big city. They are “city people” and their style reflects this. They would like their home to reflect their background, their style, and their interests. Speaking of their interests…this is a musical family. The father plays bass guitar in a band, the mom sings and Asa is a reflection of this. As I was in their home there is always music being played, songs being sung and practicing being done.
Here are the goals of this room:
- Budget $100. This seems impossible but it makes you have to use everything you have and even call on some friends for what they have in their closets collecting dust. You also have to be creative with what you have as well.
- Maximize Space
- Create Toy Storage
- Urban Modern Style that can transition with Asa. They want it to be a kid room but yet not so “baby” that it can't grow with him.
- Masculine but colorful.
- a place to sit and read to Asa
- A place for Asa to color
- Musical Theme but not too corny. I wanted to do more of a “Jazz” feel than “band” feel, but yet put a playful spin on it…it is a kids room.

jennifer farley…you outdid yourself! that looks great. i love the record wall above his dresser. you are such a treasure of a person.
sooo, i must share how much my family and i were blessed by jennifer doing asa’s room. first off, i HATED my son’s room before! we had finished renovating (well we still have a little more to do), and i was just tired of getting the house in order. we never spent any time in asa’s room because it was so BLAH, cold and uninteresting. but, i didn’t have the energy to fix up the room and i had given up trying. i asked jennifer for help and in one day this girl took my vision and laid out a believable plan. her mapping out the room and showing me how we could get it down was so encouraging because i was finally giving my son the room i wanted him to have and on a budget that we could handle!!! her simple and affordable ideas were such a breath of fresh air and showed me that one DOES NOT have to spend crazy money on an awesome room. jennifer’s skills put quality interior designs within reach for women such as myself who have to make a dollar stretch. i will never be able to thank her enough for what she did and has done in our home (she was a HUGE help in the renovating process from beginning to end). now we all love asa’s room and he has so much fun in it. thanks so much jennifer. you did it again hun:)
