Did you guys have a Happy Easter? We had a great weekend and it ended with a very restful Easter Sunday. After church we had brunch with friends since my family wasn’t in town. We ate and enjoyed time together and had an easter egg hunt with the kids there! On Saturday a little surprise package was delivered to our door. It was a 1-800-Flowers box. The Hubs immediately said “I wish I could Claim this but I didn’t send them” We opened them up and we had two bouquets of tulips to brighten our home on Easter. Thanks mom-in-law! The colorful flowers just pop on my white fire-place. It makes me want to have fresh flowers there always! I just gave our living room new life!
Our mantle wasn’t the only place that had new life. We worked on our front yard. I never got a picture of the front yard dead weeds but this picture will give you a clue to what our front yard looked like after we bombed it with weed killer.
We spent most of the day raking up our dead weeds. Raking weeds is literally a 2 hour abdominal work out.
After the weeds were gone our yard actually looked better. The crazy thing is that there was some grass is there. It was hiding among the overpowering weeds….those bullies!
The Hubs rented a seeder for a day from Volvo rents. We ordered seed online at Todd Valley Farms. Here is the kind we used. Its their turf saver blend.
The seeder aerates the lawn and seeds at the same time. The hubs seeded the entire yard.
The hubs fertilized the seeded lawn while I shooed the birds away. I wasn’t going to let them undo all our hard work. Go get seed elsewhere birds! We realized that the influx of birds was overwhelming so we ran to Lowes and bought 2 Bales of hay. We covered our lawn with the hay. I found the best method was to grab a small bundle and shake it. The hay would fall at an even, thin layer. Shaking it works your abs well too. It makes me think of Chalene of Turbo Jam. She is always telling you to shake it. (she does her signature shake it around 3:16 of the video)
Finally, our yard looked like this. The last 30 minutes the cloud cover got darker and we worked faster to beat the rain. We finished, I grabbed the camera and took a picture, walked in the garage and it started pouring. PERFECT TIMING!!!!
This is the first DIY project we have done that you don’t get to see the end results. You have to water and wait. We have no clue if our efforts will yield a pretty lawn but we are sure are hoping for some new life in our yard.
The hope of new Life…that is what Easter is all about celebrating. It was a good Easter weekend. Now, I just hoping my muscles can get some new life.
Have a Happy Monday!
