Sanity Restored

Sorry there was no rehab life post yesterday.  I have loved posting everyday but sometimes life gets crazy.  The wedding, my job, family visits, and a remodel can fill up your plate.  I don’t feel stressed.  We have prepared for the crazy so it doesn’t feel it, but sometimes you just have to let some things go to avoid the crazy.  Yesterday, it was the blog.  I will promise to try my best not to miss a Monday, Wednesday or Friday post but please forgive me if I miss a “Rehab Life” post.

A few weeks ago I posted about my popcorn ceiling debacle.  Since the last weekend in March we have been living in the living room.  The guest bedroom was full our DIY bedslats and all of our other furniture.  It was packed.  There was no solace there.  The hallway had our mirror and all of our clothes were laid out in the 3rd bedroom.  We had to use our guest bathroom because you had to step through a war zone to get to our Master Bedroom.  Laundry was piling, tools, and paint were all over the kitchen table and my sanity was long out the door.

I walked into my house last week and had a break down.  I needed some sanity.  You see, the project was never supposed to be a project.  All we needed was a new fan.  I just wanted to sleep with out “clink, clink, clink, clink”.  All of the sudden we had a project as we watched the popcorn fall.

Then it took us forever to finish it because we both work, had planned dinners with friends,  and scheduled trips with family.  I am here to tell you that it is finished.  My sanity is restored.  How did we get rid of the popcorn.?  There are varying degrees of difficulty with popcorn ceilings.  Ours was fragile so it was easy.

Here is how:

  • remove furniture
  • cover your walls and floors with painters plastic.  (do this…its worth it.  Or even better, do it before you move in…especially if you are changing the floor)
  • Grab a scraper and get after it.
  • We rolled the floor plastic up and threw it away.
  • Put another layer of plastic down on the floor.
  • Fill any holes
  • Sand your ceiling down to get a smooth paintable surface.  This was more time consuming than scraping the popcorn.
  • Vaccum
  • Prime the ceiling.  We primed with Insuladd.
  • Paint

The ceiling went from this…

To this…

To this…

Yipee for no more popcorn!!!  Do you like our new fan?  I love it.   It is the smoothest running and sounding fan.  It keeps us cool, in fact, I had to grab another blanket which is exciting because I love to be bundled when I sleep.  AND……no more clink!  The fan was on the list of to-dos but it wasn’t on the top.  We headed to Lowes to get a medallion for our new Guest Bedroom Light.  We were walking through the lighting section.  I was on a mission, only focused on what I needed.  The Hubs was just with me with no purpose and was just looking around.  My husband works for a contractor so usually its the opposite.  I rounded the corner and I heard the Hubs say “Whoah!”  I peeked back around and saw what caught his eye.

$159 for $31.80?  Modern, sleek and would look perfect in our bedroom.  It’s a Hunter 52″ Infiniti Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan.  It was the last one there.  It’s not on sale at any other store or online but it wasn’t a big seller in our store so they were trying to make room for new inventory.  It was like the fan was meant for us.  It came home with us and we have welcomed it lovingly into our family.  The lady at the cash register was shocked when she scanned it in and saw the price.  I kind of felt like I was stealing it, but I wasn’t.

Do you think this post is over?  No way!  I know its long so go get some coffee and come back.  Are you back?  Okay.  So the fan has been up for a week.  We slept in our room for the first time two days ago.  Why?  Because I am afflicted.  Well, the hubs is too.  He has been wanting to try the Insuladd on the walls.  I have been wanting to paint my master bedroom but didn’t have the energy to move the furniture.  So we decided to paint.  You shouldn’t feel sorry for me, I brought the insanity on myself.  I went from dark grey that I painted when we moved in that I was too lazy to ever change….

To a lighter color.

I am obsessed with Valspar’s Oatbran.

Its done, my house is back together, my laundry is put up, my bed is back in the room and my sanity has returned.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Jennifer
