Queen Sized Duvet

Remember when I posted here about my flea market finds in my hometown?  I shared with you that I was obsessed with this fabric.

I kept thinking about the fabric.  I was dying for a project to use it but I really didn’t need it for my house.  I wouldn’t past me to redesign a whole room based on fabric I have bought but to be honest, I don’t have the energy or the funds so I just let the fabric go…for about a week.  I was out on a Saturday looking for the Hub’s sis’ birthday present.  Then I light went off in my head and I remembered a conversation that she and I had at Christmas.  She saw this post on my blog:

And at Christmas asked me to make her a duvet cover for her bedroom.  She has a black bed and a red dresser and I thought that this fabric (that is grey, creme, and lime green) would be perfect.  If you add in some deep teal you could have a home run.  Here was the moodboard in my head.

I made the duvet cover just like I did this one here.

So if you want to know how to make a duvet cover then read those instructions there. My sis-in-law’s bed is a queen sized bed.  A queen Sized Duvet is 90X90.  I always make mine 95 X95 just so it can hang down a little more.  The comforter always seems to fit. When I was done, I searched through my fabric remnants and had some leftover grey from my headboard in my guest bedroom so I whipped up a few pillow shams the size of a normal bed pillow.  I used this method that I posed about here.  Here is what her bed looked like when we put it on her bed.

She went to target and added some more frills.

I gave my mom-in-law a duvet for Christmas.  Christmas was celebrated at my house so I never got to see the duvet in action.  I never blogged about it because it was a Christmas present.  My mom-in-law is a faithful reader so I couldn’t spoil the surprise.  When we went to Nashville I got to see it in action:

Its modern, fun and colorful and looks good with her house.

Have you guys sewed any gifts for anyone lately?  Please do tell.  Also, please forgive me this week if I am late posting or I miss a Rehab life Post.  Its wedding week and it is DIY Grand Central Station at my house.   I am loving every minute of it.

Thanks for Reading,

Jennifer

  1. The duvets look awesome! I am so glad you are my,very talented, daughter-in-law!!
    Thanks!!

  2. Thanks so much. I have never really thought about making it to sell. I would be willing to do so, but it might take me a while. My job that pays the bills is the busiest in the summer. I literally work 12 hour days. If you really want this and don’t mind waiting, I would be open to doing it. I would purchase the fabric and then just work on it as I have a moment. These take me about 3 hours to make when I can set aside time. Let me know and I will come up with a fair price.
