Preservation Station

(Did you get the title was the wedding march?)  Yes its wedding weekend and I am running around getting ready for the day of decoration.  Its pouring outside and its an outside reception tomorrow.  I just hope the sky gets it all out of its system today.

Well, there has been lots of DIY around here I just get the time to write good posts.  It takes time to craft a “how-to” post and time is not something I have today.  But, I wanted to share some fun things I found in Nashville.  We went all over town and found lots of great places to shop in Nashville.  The first place I was obsessed with was the Preservation Station.  Its kind of pricy for the big items but if you want old nobs, light fixtures, doors…this is your place.  When someone tears down old buildings Preservation Station swoops in and grabs all the goods…doors, knobs, windows, lights, fireplace mantles, tubs, hardwood, brick, old tile….and they sell it.  They get all of their stuff from 100-year-old buildings.  They also use their old products to make new stuff.  Like, here they used some old iron work to make pendant lighting.

Of course I inspected it to see if I could recreate it.  I don’t have a need for it, but I took a picture just to put it in my back pocket if I am helping someone rehab a room.   Here is a circular version:

The Hubs and I laughed at this tub.  What was it used for?  Kids?  Dogs?  Shaving Legs?  I have never seen a tub that small.

We went to the Habitat for Humanity Restore and I instantly got jealous.  I love our little local Re-store but they had tons of cabinets and furniture!  Look at these chairs.  These could be fun as kitchen table chairs, desk chairs or outdoor chairs.  I would probably spray paint them, but then again, these colors are “in” fashion wise.

In my part of the country a “retro” or “modern” couch description on Craigslist means something different from my definition.  Its hard to find a decent “rehabbable” couch on Craigslist and rarely in Thrift stores.  So, when I saw this couch for $50 I just wanted to cry.  If it were here, I would have splurged and put it in my third bedroom.  Maybe for a future house, for a friend, or to recover and resale.  I was so sad because I couldn’t take it home 9 hours in our car.

Well, off to wedding errands.  (Of course, hard-core DIY merits a stop at Sonic for a Lemon Slush.  Yes, a lemon slush is a bad good habit)  This is what the Hubs will be dealing with this weekend.  This is the bathroom in our friend’s house.

Oh, and did I mention my best friend and her three kids are coming to stay with us this weekend.  Am I crazy?  Nope!  We love it.

Have a great weekend,

Jennifer
