When the Hubs and I were helping our friends in their new house we decided that the theme would be a cottage look. The house is a tiny little house with two bedrooms and the cutest cottage little kitchen.
We painted the stone rock fireplace and it looked “cottagy” as well:
We wanted to change the light fixtures throughout the house. We were on a budget of course. I didn’t take before pictures of the lights but they were the classic “Boob” lights. Very old and bug infested. I figured you would be okay without seeing them. We wanted to do something cottage themed. The Hubs and I get a subscription to Old House Journal. I was looking through pictures of a house someone restored and I saw a light similar to this one:
I got online to see where I could find something like this and of course was around $99. This was not in the budget because we needed three. I went to Lowes and they had something for about $30 and I thought that was good too, but I just wondered if I could do better. I walked around and I found this:
First of all, I loved the $6 price tag. While I liked the brass, I had already purchased some charcoal metal spray paint for this light fixture. The Charcoal Metal color from Rustoleum will be a theme in this house. I love it. Its my ORB (oil-rubbed bronze) Most people like ORB…I like Charcoal Metal color. Anyway, I could spray paint the brass for a little more cohesion. Before I purchased, I wondered if there was a bulb. Sure enough, in the light bulb section at Lowes (in my Lowes its 5 aisles over from the lighting section, they have bulbs that fit this ceiling mount. They even had cottagy ones for $5! Score. I spray painted, mounted the fixtures and this is what we came up with for $11 a fixture:

Thats all for today! I have more to come so stay tuned!
Have a great 3 day weekend!
