I've Got $20 In My Pocket

Last Friday my favorite blog Younghouselove, who am I kidding….everyone’s favorite blog, did a little thrift shop challenge in honor of the poplular Thrift Shop song by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.  (If you are confused on the title of this post…its a reference to the song.)  If you didn’t read younghouselove’s link up challege then click here.

Warning:  While I love the creativity of the rap song about shopping in thriftstores and love, love the beat.   I was SUPER bummed that the language was so bad.  Younghouselove is always makes their blog a “family friendly” blog and so they put the clean version on their website.  Warning…even in the edited version, you can still kind of tell what they

are saying.  If you don’t know me I am more of a “G-Rated” girl so instead of linking the video…I decided to upload a picture of the video.

The main verse of the song talks about having $20 in your pocket so younghouselove challenged its readers to do the following:

1. Take $20 and spend it at a thrift store
2. Take a picture of what you bought
3. Take a picture of something that was in that video.

We realized this could be the only opportunity in life to experience a Goodwill outlet so we had to go.  We walked in the doors and found this:

Here is the chaos surrounding a bin.  I will let the pictures speak for themselves about what is in the bins.  This is truly a treasure hunt.  This place brings the fullness of meaning to the phrase “trash to treasure.”  There was not theme in each bin.  It was literally a free for all.

I didn’t want to search, yet I still wanted to the more I watched.  I am absolutely NOT a germ-a-phobe.  I am so laid back when it comes to germs, but even I was wondering if I needed some gloves.  I told the Hubs that I had to go in, I had to come out with something.  This was a bloggable event.  It was a “pay-by-the-pound” store so I came online pharmacy no prescription out with three things for a total of $12.50.  (It was under the videos $20 lyrics, but who am I to pass up saving $7.50.)  This was one of those items.

If you divide the three items I got by three (because there was no price tag, you paid by the pound) This item was a whopping $4.30 and I had no idea if it worked.  My first instinct was to paint in an antique brass to match the desk chairs that we have.

That endeavor turned out bad and I don’t know why.  The spray paint, even after the lamp was primed, kept turning out like this:

After sanding it down, starting over, and getting the same result after spraying again, I moved onto plan B.  Rope.  Here is what it looks like now.

I love how it turned out and can’t wait for you to see how it easy it was to do.  I love the simplicity of the round, filament bulb
