Advent Calendar…FOR YOU

Jennifer —  November 29, 2012 — 1 Comment

Advent Promo

My friends who have kids always tell me that Christmas, as an adult, is so much more fun when you have kids!  A few years ago I figured why wait for kids and did an Advent Calendar for Lee (the Hubs) and I and it was a blast.  It made Christmas go from fun to epic.  This year, I decided to make Christmas at I Love Rehabs epic.  Starting December 1st this blog will turn into a 25 day Advent Calendar for you!  Why?  Because during Christmas (and really always) it’s so much more fun to give than receive.  I could post about my DIY projects, but let’s be honest…who has time for home DIY when its Christmas?  We all have gifts to buy, Christmas trees to decorate, parties to plan and attend, food to cook, food to eat, and most importantly…family to hang out with.

Starting December 1st there will be something free for you…everyday.  Some days there will be free stuff for all, and some will be free for a winner (giveaway style).  It all has to do with you and Christmas.  What do you have to do?  Nothing….just come by everyday starting December 1st through December 25th and score some free stuff!  Follow my blog to get an automatic reminder, tweet it out and Facebook your friends to join in to.

I am absolutely positive my friends are right, Christmas is more fun with kids.  I am determined to make Christmas for you… just as fun and surprising.

Its Official  2 Days until the I Love Rehabs Christmas Advent!

See ya there,

Jennifer

Snatch It Up…Kansas City

Jennifer —  November 13, 2012 — Leave a comment

I have a great love of finding treasures to rehab. You have seen my house.  I don’t have room for any more treasures but somehow I still seem to check Craigslist once a day, usually while I am watching something with the Hubs.  I think I might have an addictive personality, but thanks to much accountability (i.e. my husband) it gets curbed.  I figured why not put my addiction to good use?  Why not look for great finds for the people reading?  It seems like a win, win for me.  The Hubs might be thanking you all for directing my rehab energy towards someone else.

The target city today is Kansas City.

It wasn’t long on my Craigslist search that I found the table below.  I think its supposed to be used as a dining room table and you could do that for sure, but what about a huge desk?  You know, the kind that is sitting in the middle of a room with your file storage right behind it?  Paint it and add a nice wing back chair and you have got yourself a nice home office.  $30 for a desk is not bad, and don’t forget to bargain!

If you Pinterest “play kitchen”  you will see tons of DIY options using entertainment centers.  I thought this entertainment center was perfect.   You don’t feel creative?  Copy this one!  It looks so fun!  What a great gift for not much moolah.

Another idea would be to turn this into a “dress-up” area. You could ask the shelves out of the taller cabinet and put a curtain rod.  Add a mirror or a fun framed peg board for hanging lots of accessories.  I love the one Mandi from vintage revivals did for her daughter.

Finally, this could be great laundry storage!  Random, but it could be fun!  Here is my sketch:

Who knows if this will help ya but if it does, make sure you send me pictures of your rehab!

Please forgive me as this site transitions.  I will continue to post Monday, Wednesday and Fridays but I am overhauling the entire site.

I with the blog change was as easy as going from blonde to brunette…but its not. Just to update you… transferred my blog from a free wordpress site over to a self hosted site.  This transition has not been easy.  If you go back through my posts you will have problems with the following:

  • Links….none of my links moved over.  Yep, I have to go back through all 200+ posts and re link.  Yikes
  • All of the pages (DIY, Moodboards and all that good stuff is all messed up)  Double Yikes

All that to say…please be patient.  I have a full time job that is not the blog so it might be a few weeks, but I promise it will be so much more usable.

So, come back on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for new posts and I will let you know when all the functions of the site are up and  running!

If you were an actual subscriber on the other site you have to resubscribe.  That will work so go ahead and do it.

Thanks for reading!

Our Trip to Nashville Part 2

Jennifer —  September 7, 2012 — 2 Comments

Wednesday, I shared with you my brand new experience of the Nashville Flea Market.  We have been to Nashville a few times, once to help my sis-in-law with her kitchen here and once just to hang out with the family here.  We love it here, and there are a few places  that we make sure we check out when in Nashville.

My favorite is the Nashville Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  I really don’t know what I would do if I lived in Nashville.  The ReStore has so much great stuff!  We walked out of this building with one thing, but here are things I wish I could have taken home.

This couch needed a new slipcover. The only thing wrong with this  couch is that it was just dirty.  It was $200 but in excellent condition.  Of course, in a few weeks the price was going to drop $100.   A new cover on it and you have an amazing couch! You could maybe dry clean its existing cover and it would be okay.

I loved this little side table for $15. If you paint it  fun bright color a change-up the knobs with these library style knobs you could have a cool side table.  You could also prop something like this up on casters and it could slide under a desk for craft storage!

Last week I posted about the decor in my bathroom. Since I had enough storage in the cabinet I decided to add some small shelves. They made the stripes 3D because they were the same color and width as the stripes.

I grabbed a few things that I had around the house

  • an old drawer from a library desk. No, I never had the desk….just the drawer. I thought it was perfect for holding items for guests
  • a subway sign I made
  • a picture of the Hubs and I and our pup
  • and some little restrooms signs that started out in my master but would never stay on the wall.

I started piecing it together and got this little collage:

It needed more so I gathered some items around the house and bought a few from the dollar store. In comes this little $1 cutie…or should I say “hootie”.

After some primer and some navy blue paint…he turned into this little guy:

These are some of my summer staff that I have to say goodbye to tomorrow.

Today is my last day in summer camp. It is a really busy and emotional day for me as we say goodbye to or kids and staff and winterize the camp grounds. Please forgive me for not posting today. My emotions are high and the to do list is long. Come back on Monday because I am ready to start some new rehabs and finish some old ones. Have a great weekend!

My Other Life…

Jennifer —  May 30, 2012 — 7 Comments

When I am not busy rehabbing rooms or furniture, helping my friends renovate, or decorating a wedding…I have a real job.  I am a sports camp director.  We are about ready to open our gates…and so today I have been busy orientating our staff and getting the camp ready.  Time slipped by with no blog.    Sorry, but I will be back on Friday with a great blog.  Until then:

Here is me and the hubs before a skit for the kids:

Anything to make the kids smile!

My Dog Sits Like A Human

Jennifer —  May 8, 2012 — 1 Comment

I walked into the laundry room this morning and this is how I found my dog.  He was sitting upright in his Kennel like a human…with his legs in front of him.  This made my day today and I couldn’t stop giggling so I thought I would share it with you:

I walked by this today. I am not a huge hot dog fan (bad experience at a 4th grade field trip and i have never been the same) but I might have to try one just because this place looks fun.
