Wreath Wrap

If I was really witty and funny I could come up with a fun “rap” that has to do with this topic but at the risk of being a complete cheese ball and making a fool of myself I will hold back.  There is a beat in my head right now though…

Anyway, the week  of the wedding I was talking to the bride about what all they had collected and I felt like we needed something more.  Thank you Pinterest because I was able to Pin this to the board the bride and I had been sharing and she immediately called and said do it.  I tweaked it a little of course.

I went off to Micheals in search of Styrofoam wreath forms.  Cue the “Whah, Whah, Whah” sound when you guess the wrong letter on “Wheel of Fortune”.  They had small ones for $12.00.  I was fine with the $12.00 but they were so small.  They had big ones but the were squared off and not “wrappable round”.  The big ones were $18 a pop.  I would have been fine with that but one of my pet peeves is spending good money for something this is not exactly what I want.  If I have to tweak it…it better be cheap.  If I would have had time I would’ve gone to the Hobby Lobby 45 minutes away, but there was no time Micheals was my option.  I rounded the corner to the next aisle and found this:

A straw wreath the perfect size and the perfect price.  I grabbed 4 for $20.  It was wrapped in plastic.

The Groom Loves Cupcakes

Jennifer —  May 2, 2012 — 5 Comments

Instead of a grooms cake the bride and groom opted for a cupcake table.  A local barbeque joint makes the best cupcakes so the bride ordered them from there.  My job was to figure out how to make the cupcakes presentable…in a vintage way of course.  This wedding was literally the wedding of all things collected.   We (the bride, me, and her mother) had been gathering furniture, doors, trinkets ect.. for about one month.  The crazy thing is that 85% of the stuff was either from the MOB’s (mother-of-the Bride) house or from family and friends.  It was all dropped off on Saturday morning and I had to pick through a smorgasbord of stuff and figure out where it should go.  I had an idea in my head for the table and prepared a little for it, but as for what surrounds the table…I had no clue until Saturday.

Here is what I knew that I was going to use on the table:

  •  Large vintage boxes,
  • Cake stands
  • platters
  • some other type of riser to get the cupcakes presented on levels.

I found two of these large drawers from what, I don’t know.  They were sitting at the Re-Store for $2 a pop.

Also at the Re-store I found these old light fixtures for .25¢ a pop and these old ship-themed resorts door decor for .10¢ a pop.

All total I spent $5.00.  (the owner gave it all to me for a flat five dollars.)  Why the nasty old light fixtures and hotel decor?  Here is what I did:

  1. I cleaned up the antiqued brass light fixtures with a wet rag and pulled the rope off the hotel door decor.
  2. I primed the wood circles.
  3. I ironed and cut a peice of fabric I had from Debbie’s wedding the size of the circles
  4. I used spray adhesive that I had to attach the circles of fabric to the top.
  5. I covered the edges by hot-gluing  ribbon around the edges.

I used Liquid Nails I had to attach the wooden circle to the light fixture.  I now had three cupcake/cake stands for less than a dollar each!
