Last Friday I shared with you that iloverehabs will be doing a monthly reader rehab post. One other monthly post will be titled “Normal Us”. This is my version of house crashing. These are homes of gals like me that are non-interior designers trying to make their house unique. They are all on different budgets, time frames, and schedules. While these women know what they want they more than likely make it happen in stages and make mistakes along the way. While I love a good finished home for inspiration sometimes it good to see the process and greatness from everyday, “Normal Us”.
My first home is my best friend Ashley. Here is her cute little family. Aren't they precious!
She is a mom of two and she has lived in her home about a week longer than her first daughter's age. Moving in and 9 months pregnant, yep that's my friend Ashley. It didn't phase her one bit. She, like me, has painted and repainted, moved and reshuffled, nailed up and taken down, thrifted and Craigslisted. You might remember that I made this bench for her. Here it is 9 months later:
- Her style: Cozy Casual with industrial accents
- Her color Scheme: Neutrals with pops of color in fabric and things
- Her next project priority: Her desk.
Here is her living room:

Since she doesn't have a fireplace in her home. Sometimes a home with out a fireplace can lose the focal point. She smartly created the focal point by choosing this entertainment center. It serves as the anchor for the room and truly is the focal point. She has plans for the wall and other furniture placement but she is getting there one project at a time. I love her fun bean bag in the corner. One day it will be moved into her basement but I like it here too.
These stools she found in a garage sale. They are great extra seating and she is going to cover them with a clearance table-cloth she found at Target. Since she has two little toddlers she has lots of storage for toys all around the house.
She made her curtains and I love the modern pattern. It brings the industrial into her cozy casual style. Curtains for big windows like this can be expensive. She already had blinds for privacy so she just made curtains to frame and soften the window. She didn't worry about having to open and shut the curtains.
Here is the home for her desk. I love the way she used Ikea Lack Shelves above her desk. She made all of the printable art that you see and used frames she had.

The desk is a necessity..she works part-time from home. Her next big project is to DIY a desk using these legs from Ikea.
Here is her Dining Room and Kitchen:
She also has plans for wall-to-wall storage on the wall to the left. I might have to show you when she's done because she has got a good plan. She was given this table by a friend who didn't want it and she painted it cream. Dont you love it? I also love the different styles of chairs around her table. She has plans to add more.
I love these bar stools. I love typography and I am swooning over the numbers on the bar stools. Again, this a nod to her industrial accents.
